Over the past two decades Dr. Amine Haoui—a wireless communications pioneer—has founded and led several emerging technology companies. In 1985, Dr. Haoui launched the wireless communications division at TCSI, which grew to become a leading developer of DSP and digital cellular technologies before the group’s successful IPO in 1989. As co-founder of Diva Communications—an innovator in the nascent wireless loop industry—Dr. Haoui served as CEO before acquisition by InnoMedia in 1999. He then served as InnoMedia’s Executive VP for the next four years. In 2003, Dr. Haoui co-founded Sensys Networks, a technology company focused on wireless vehicle detection systems for the transportation industry.
Dr. Haoui holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley, an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
Sensys Networks co-founder, Dr. Robert Kavaler is a born inventor. With over 25 years of experience in developing wireless, ultra-low-power sensors, Dr. Kavaler is both the architect of the Sensys Networks product line, and an individual contributor in the software and hardware implementations.
Previously, Dr. Kavaler led the Berkeley Design Center at InnoMedia, where he served as chief architect of the company’s telecom server and VoIP gateway products. Before his work at InnoMedia, Dr. Kavaler was CTO and VP of Engineering at Diva Communications, a wireless local loop startup he co-founded with Dr. Amine Haoui in 1993. Dr. Kavaler has also developed new technologies for UPS, Mitsubishi, AT&T, Sharp, and Digital Microsystems, and received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
Ms. Georgia Athanasiou has worked in financial management for over two decades. Prior to joining Sensys Networks, Ms. Athanasiou was an accounting and financial management consultant working with start-ups and growing companies. Ms. Athanasiou’s experience includes Director of Finance and Administration for the Horn Group, a public relations agency, Treasurer of the Pacific Bank, and CFO of New Horizons Savings.
Ms. Athanisiou started her career as an auditor for KPMG and Deloitte & Touche, and holds an MSBA in Business Analysis and Finance.
Dr. Hamed Benouar comes to Sensys Networks with extensive experience in the transportation industry. Prior to joining the company, Dr. Benouar served as Director of the California Center for Innovative Transportation (CCIT), at the University of California, Berkeley. Established by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the University of California in 2001, the CCIT facilitates the development, commercialization, and deployment of promising transportation technologies and systems.
Before his role at CCIT, Dr. Benouar spent many years as Caltrans’ Chief Traffic Engineer, overseeing the statewide Transportation Operations Program. This program, comprised of over 1,600 employees, managed and operated more than 48,000 lane miles of state highway system.
Dr. Benouar is a registered Professional Engineer and holds a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Transportation) from the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Christopher Flores is responsible for managing and contributing to the company’s internal and external R&D programs, and ensuring Sensys Networks maintains its competitive technical advantage in the ITS field. Previously, Dr. Flores worked for AT&T Bell Laboratories, in New Jersey, and TCSI, in Berkeley, CA. He was the founder and Vice President of Engineering for Adicom Wireless and Accelaro Systems, Inc., two startup companies located in the Bay Area.
With over 25 years of experience in technology and product development in wired and wireless telecommunications, Dr. Flores has developed technologies used for wireless terminal and base-station systems of public mobile and fixed-wireless networks. He is now applying this expertise to solve challenging problems in the transportation sector.
Dr. Flores received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and M.S. in Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley, and his B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He has 10 United States Patents and publications in GLOBECOM, PIMRC, BSTJ and AMS Proceedings.
Mr. Brian Fuller has over 16 years of product design and development experience in data networking and telephony. Prior to joining Sensys Networks, Mr. Fuller was Director of Hardware Engineering at GoDigital Networks, managing the extensive growth of the company’s xDSL technologies while designing patented systems for their broadband access products. Mr. Fuller has held both technical and managerial responsibilities at Odyssia Systems (now Extreme Networks, Inc.), Diva Communications (now InnoMedia, Inc.), and OcTel Communications (now Lucent Technologies, Inc.).
Mr. Fuller received a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
Mr. Luca Fusina has over 20 years of program and project management in transportation, communications and web technology. Prior to joining Sensys Networks, Mr. Fusina was Technical Lead at E-live srl in Milan, designing and implementing a real-time traffic information and analysis system. He has held both technical and management responsibilities at Correlec SpA, Intercomp SpA and Padova Ricerche.
Mr. Fusina received a Masters Degree in Electronic Engineering from Università di Padova.
Mr. Huddock has over twenty years of industry experience as an Information Technology professional with extensive experience with start-up companies, Business Development, Voice & Data Networking and, VOIP technologies. Before joining Sensys Networks, Mr. Huddock founded Citilink Communications where he served as CEO and built the first Wimax network in Minnesota providing Voice and Data services to enterprise customers. Prior to founding Citilink, he founded AVVID Technologies where he led the company to become the premier wireless provider of voice and data services in the (MDU) multiple dwelling market-place.
With over twenty years of industry experience, Mr. Huddock excels at managing new ventures, product roll-outs and business development with an emphasis on technology deployment and a strong focus on understanding the needs and expectations of customers.
Mr. Rif Haffar is a seasoned executive whose career has included senior management positions in both private and publicly-traded companies. Mr. Haffar has led and managed sales, marketing, product, engineering, and MIS organizations throughout the telecommunications industries.
Prior to joining Sensys Networks, Mr. Haffar was president of Pyramid Capital Advisors, a consulting practice assisting private equity funds source, assess, and structure deals in the communications and technology space. Mr. Haffar holds an MBA from Portland State University and resides in Vienna, Austria.
Mr. Barry Matlack has more than a decade of experience in technology consulting, program development, and sales management. Prior to joining Sensys Networks, Mr. Matlack was responsible for marketing, sales, and strategic industry partnerships as National Systems Consultant for Signal-Park USA, a leader in single-space detection for parking guidance/management systems. Mr. Matlack began his career in the CAD software industry, where he developed a proven track record of increasing revenue and growing sales in diverse environments, including CADSoft Consulting and the University of Advancing Technology.
Mr. Matlack earned his B.Sc. in Design Technology at the University of Advancing Technology, Tempe, Arizona.
After receiving an M.Sc. in mechanical engineering from Lyon's École Catholique des Arts et Métier (ECAM), Mr. Eric Murugneux, Director of European Marketing and Business development, spent 10 years building a $15 million sensor and software business in the automotive industry.
He went on to receive an MBA at HEC Paris, while also attending exchange semesters at the UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business, and the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS) Berkeley.
Mr. Murugneux joined Sensys Networks in 2011 with the goal of accelerating Sensys Networks' success throughout Europe.
Mr. Ray Schreiber joined Sensys Networks in 2008 to manage the corporate marketing function. With over a decade of product marketing and management in the semiconductor and automotive industries, Mr. Schreiber began his career in product engineering and design at Ford Motor Company. Prior to joining Sensys Networks, Mr. Schreiber led enterprise product management at NVIDIA, and spent the previous 10 years at Analog Devices managing various functions within product marketing, channel management, and sales.
Mr. Schreiber holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and an MBA from Cornell University.
Mr. Michael T. Volling has spent nearly two decades marketing advanced vehicle detection technologies to the transportation industry. Beginning his career at Econolite Control Products, he helped introduce the AutoScope Video Detection System to traffic management applications. Later, Mr. Volling was instrumental in introducing and developing the market for Vantage, the video detection system from Iteris. Now, at Sensys Networks, he is once again bringing cutting-edge technology to the fundamental problem of vehicle detection.
Mr. Volling received his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Phillip Walsh, Director Australasia, Singapore and Malaysia, joined Sensys Networks Inc. in 2011. Previously, Mr. Walsh worked at VicRoads (the State Road Authority for Victoria, Australia) as the Principal Manager, Intelligent Transport Systems.
Mr. Walsh brings a wealth of public and private sector experience in traffic and transport, managed motorways, road safety, network operations, and intelligent transport systems, within Australia and internationally.
Mr. Walsh was the Project Director for Australia’s first managed motorway, which was implemented as part of the 1.39B (AUD) Monash-CityLink- West Gate Freeway Upgrade. He was also the Project Manager for the 2006 Commonwealth Games at VicRoads, acting as liaison with stakeholders to ensure traffic was successfully managed throughout the Games.
Mr. Floyd Williams has over 25 years of experience in both product, and services sectors, with an emphasis in technology, business strategy, and product management. Prior to joining Sensys Networks, Mr. Williams co-founded FoundryOne, an innovation services company which assisted large corporations in productizing their latent intellectual property. Mr. Williams earlier led product development at Internet Profiles, the leading auditor of ad-supported web sites, and Evolve Software, an early innovator in resource management software.
Mr. Williams holds a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and a B.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering from University of Arizona.
